Measures against false positives caused by antivirus software

A regal installed ThumbnailCity may be incorrectly detected as a virus by antivirus software (security software), resulting in the following problems. (This often seems to happen right after an updated version is released.)

  • When installing ThumbnailCity, a dialog box from the antivirus software such as “A virus has been found in ThumbCityXX.exe” appears, and files necessary for execution are deleted.
  • A warning dialog is displayed when starting the viewer, and it cannot be started unless execution is approved.
  • Even though a thumbnail is specified by the viewer, the thumbnail in the folder is not updated.

These false positives can be avoided by specifying the ThumbnailCity app as an exception on the antivirus software side. Additionally, by specifying an exception, it is possible to skip the prove process performed by the antivirus software, so you can expect an improvement in execution speed.

We will not explain how to specify exceptions here. You can find from the web for the name of your antivirus software and search for “specify exceptions”.

  • In case of specifying a folder, specify the installation destination folder.*1
  • In case of specifying files, specify files bellow in the installation destination folder.*1
    • ThumbCityPV.exe
    • ThumbCitySB.exe
    • ThumbCitySE32.dll
    • ThumbCitySE64.dll*2
    • ThumbCityTC.exe
    • ThumbCityWP32.dll
    • ThumbCityWP64.dll*2

*1: Default is “C:\Program Files\KwCOMVIC\ThumbCity”
*2: Only 64 bit version.

Note

Many files that tampered with ThumbnailCity are circulating on the web. Using these files is already dangerous, but adding them to your antivirus software’s exceptions can make it even more dangerous. Please note that this site (local.comvic.mydns.jp) is the only official distribution source for the English version of ThumbnailCity.
